Fraport Brasil Begins Managing the Jericoacoara Regional Airport
New phase calls for infrastructure upgrades and terminal preparations to meet growing demand
Today, September 1, Fraport Brasil takes over management of the Jericoacoara Regional Airport – Comandante Ariston Pessoa, marking the start of a new phase. The concessionaire intends to upgrade the infrastructure and prepare it for future growth in passenger demand, with a focus on a more secure, efficient, and comfortable operation for users and airlines.
The concession is part of the federal AmpliAR program, aimed at the expansion and modernization of regional airports. The auction was held on November 27, 2025, and the contract was signed on March 10, 2026. With the new contract, Jericoacoara Airport now enjoys operational synergy with Fortaleza International Airport, also managed by Fraport Brasil.
The ceremony marking the start of the new management was opened with a musical performance by the orchestra of the Art and Education Center of Jijoca de Jericoacoara (NAEC) and brought together officials and representatives from government, the tourism sector, and the business community. Among those in attendance were the state secretary of Tourism, Gustavo Montenegro; the mayor of Cruz, Dery Muniz; the secretary of Tourism of Jijoca de Jericoacoara, Rosana Lima, as well as Fraport Brasil CEO, Andreea Pal, Vice Presidents Leonardo Carnielle and Edgar Nogueira, family members of Commander Ariston Pessoa and the Muniz family, and members of the press.
Among the new management’s priorities are investments in infrastructure, operational safety, and the capacity and experience of passengers. All interventions will be carried out in a planned manner, in accordance with the technical and regulatory criteria applicable to airport operations. The first projects and their respective completion deadlines will be defined after the validation of the projects and studies currently underway. The schedule will follow the parameters set forth in the contract amendment, taking into account the volume of investment required for the modernization and expansion of the terminal’s infrastructure. The investments are expected to contribute to strengthening tourism on the northern coast of Ceará, boosting the local economy, job creation, and regional development.
“Today we are beginning a new phase for this airport and for the entire region. We have arrived in Jeri with international experience and a willingness to understand local characteristics and opportunities. Our commitment is to make this airport an increasingly safe, efficient, comfortable, and growth-ready facility,” says Andreea Pal, CEO of Fraport Brasil.
The airport retains its official name, Jericoacoara Regional Airport – Commander Ariston Pessoa, and will also begin using the commercial brand name Jeri Airport.
